The Xandari Resort and Spa are probably one of the most original and beautiful settings you may find in San José. Set in the mountains bordering the Central Valley, its atmosphere breathes peace, and a sense of grace fill your senses… What makes it? What does it have that other hotel don’t?
When you walk in Xandari, many words come to mind, but the one concept that hangs over your spirit is “beauty”.
Beauty is such a personal thing! It has to do more with the observer than with the thing.
In Xandari, a beauty fairy touched every single detail with its magical dust:
The paintings, the gardens, the trails, the restaurant, and the spa. Every single corner is made to distil beauty.
Xandari Resort and Spa is a call for the lost beauty in the World and for us to get it back.
2. Human Touch
As you get to the first gate of Xandari Resort and Spa, you feel the warmth of the people. The guard, the gardener, a little after, the bell boys and receptionists. The general feeling is that everyone in this place feels happy. Glad to be working there, and happy that you are visiting.
Yes, of course, they introduce themselves with their names and they ask you how the food is… But it goes beyond. You see the way they talk to each other, the way they behave when no one is watching. They are simply happy. And happiness is a contagious vibe.
Xandari Resort and Spa is quite a unique place.
Despite the fact that it belongs to a large chain of boutique hotels around the World, in Xandari each room and corner of the hotel is different from the next.
The whole place is designed to be out of the ordinary.
The art, the plants, the sculptures, the way they built the trails. This hotel is a perfect sanctuary of creativity.
And probably what makes Xandari Resort and Spa be a matchless haven of singularity is art. Art, by definition, is unique. And this place is filled with art. The walls, the tables, the pool. Everything seems to have an artist behind. And not one artist. But several.
The fun and magical thing about art is that while artists receive the inspiration to create from beyond themselves, you get a bath of this enchantment while at Xandari and this encourages the imagination to soar and the Spirit to thrive.
By having an environment full of art, Xandari not only makes a healing and peaceful environment but also incentives the local artists to go on in their pursuit of originality, creativity, and beauty.
Xandari Resort and Spa makes a real effort to create a sustainable way to keep the business going.
They have several programs to involve guests in this conservation move as, for example:
Planting of native trees, the use of food and garden waste in organic compost that is used, also in their gardens.
All their light bulbs are efficient and consume 75% less as well as all the lighting on the trails is solar powered.
The carts for the transportation of people and luggage are electric.
There is a definite encouragement for guests to turn off lights and equipment while not being used.
Gardens are irrigated from rain water, and all clothes drying is made in solarized patios.
We are only mentioning a few of their practices, as in general terms Xandari Resort and Spa is evident in their efforts to put a grain of sand in our planet’s health and future.
Out of the 57 employees at Xandari Resort and Spa, 44 are from Tacacori, the tiny village where the resort is situated. The rest are from the nearby Alajuela City.
Even the manager grew up and still lives a block away from the hotels’ main gate. This creates quite a singular environment as the hotel becomes a family in the whole sense.
They know each other parents, siblings and children. They have celebrated weddings, first communions, and funerals together. Their kids go the same school and take part in the same soccer games.
Xandari Resort and Spa have a list of institutions they regularly donate to
Asociación Pro Ayuda al Niño y Adolescente en la Salud (“Association for Child and Adolescent Health”) which delivers medical attention to children and adolescents from lower income families.
Asociación de Terranostra (“Terranostra Association”), a nongovernment organization that pioneers in educating the public on the proper management of solid waste in Costa Rica and raises awareness for the conservation of water resources, by leading a yearly community street clean-up in the local town.
Asociación de Desarrollo de Tacacorí (“Tacacorí Association of Development”) which ensures that the needs of the local community are being addressed, such as maintenance of roads, improved lighting, and affordable public transportation services. (1)
Xandari Resort and Spa is immersed in nature. The gardens, their nature reserve, you see green everywhere.
They also have a nature reserve where you can enjoy waterfalls and the rainforest atmosphere.
And even beyond that, the villas are created in a way that you can fully breathe the surrounding life. The shapes, the curves, the huge window panels, everything, is a reminder of the surrounding Costa Rican exuberant nature.
Xandari Resort and Spa is a fantastic place to stay, it is close to the airport (10 minutes), close to the main attractions of the Central Valley and less than an hour drive from the capital city San Jose.
It is romantic for couples, easy for seniors, gorgeous for art and nature lovers and great for families.
