With three active volcanoes in Costa Rica, and more than a hundred dormed, we are getting used to looking for the news to see the most recent information on them. These updates are on the three volcanoes that may affect visitors to Costa Rica

Poás Volcano eruption
Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
Last Sunday, the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano in Guanacaste, registered a new eruption, the occurrence was not visible due to the cloudy conditions in the area at this hour.
Locals of the zone were able to witness the vapor in the river as a result of a small lahar to the North sector of the volcano.The Penjamo river displays a grayish coloration and noticeable sulfur-like scent.

Video shared by the National University’s Volcanology and Seismology Institute and sent in by Joaquin Matarrita shows the lahar as it comes down the river.
The Rincón de la Vieja is one of Costa Rica’s active volcanoes; It has phreatic activity since 2011, and infrequent eruptions; the last time it happened one was registered on May 23 and produced small lahars.Resident rescue teams are in the area inspecting the region near to the volcano including the rivers.

Poas Volcano
In the case of Poás Volcano in Alajuela, experts examined the active crater and noticed that the lake has vanished, the crater currently shows two geological structures which are a broad flat crater formed by a phreatomagmatic eruption.
The volcano endures showing a column of gases and vapor with aerosols that show blue and yellowish colors due to the fine particles of sulfur, sulfate, silica, and drops of acid that are clear to the atmosphere due to the evaporation of the acid lake.
Turrialba Volcano
Turrialba Volcano had a small eruption this morning (Tuesday, June 13th, 2017) with no ashfall to any populated areas.
Conclusion
Right now the volcanoes provide a great show for those who are in the areas where they are visible. They are NOT affecting airports or any touristic areas. Although the Poas and Turrialba Volcanoes remain closed to the public.
