United Airlines will launch seasonal flights to two Costa Rican cities from Colorado this winter, joining an increasingly competitive market between Denver International Airport and the Central American tourist hot bed.
DIA’s largest carrier will operate nonstop weekend routes from Denver to Liberia and to San Jose between Dec. 18 and April 30. It is the first time United has flown between Denver and Costa Rica, though it did begin operating nonstop flights to Panama in December.
United will compete against both of DIA’s other largest carriers on the routes. Frontier Airlines now operates weekly nonstop flights between DIA and Liberia. Southwest Airlines, meanwhile will launch service to both of those cities by Nov. 1, according to its website, though neither of the flights will be nonstop.
