While Reading our blog article on wellness destinations http://www.caminotravel.com/survey-reveals-top-worldwide-wellness-destinations-and-costa-rica-is-3/ , I remembered my personal experience when I started connecting with my well-being and changing into the wellness lifestyle.
Of course a nice treat for oneself is the spa experience and a great organic meal…but wellness, being well is much more than that… For me wellness is brought through yoga and meditation, connecting one’s physical, mental and spiritual bodies.
Yoga is getting to know yourself. What do you feel when you can’t achieve an asana? What do you feel when you can finally do it? Did you know your body could let you do all that?
Yoga is connecting with the divinity that lives within you, feeling part of nature, realizing we are just one more specie created from the same source, from where everything else was created. We are not more, nor less. All creatures deserve to be happy and free, lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu…as the mantra says*.
Yoga is accepting your light and your shadow. Once you start living by the Yamas and Niyamas, and seeing it’s an everyday practice you realize there is good and absence of good in you. Then you realize you can’t judge and start developing compassion towards yourself and others…sometimes it’s harder to feel compassion for oneself. You start paying attention (mindfulness) to your thoughts, to your actions, to your words, to what you eat, to what you read, to what you listen to, to your breath…
Yoga is living a joyful life! Once you feel one with life and all its forms and accept who you are, you start feeling contentment, without any particular reason, you just feel “fine and happy” with what it is…
And what a great way it is to feel “connected” by traveling and making yourself feel and live as a citizen of the world. And well, I am blessed with being born and living in the third wellness destination of the world, as per the the second annual survey of Worldwide Wellness Destinations, wow!
So, where would I recommend to go for a great yoga and leisure travel experience? My top five include:
*May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words, and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
