Today, June 5th, the World Environment Day is celebrated. The slogan of this year is:
“Seven billion dreams. One Planet. Consume with care”
We are seven billion … of lives, dreams, parents, grandparents … humans. Seven billion worlds that can profoundly affect it only planet we all inhabit.
And we are observing changes, they are not anymore scary stories or dazzling prophecies… The climate has changed. We are all witnessing it. Here in Costa Rica, cities where we used to have two blankets to sleep, we now use fans and our sweaters and jackets are kept in our closets. It rains a lot more than before, and there is much more drought than before. More eruptions, more earthquakes, new diseases…
The consequences of our actions are sending the bill… to us. Not to our Earth. The bill comes under our name and it is us, and our descendants the ones who have to pay in suffering, in pain, disease and death.
If the age of the Earth was one day … Humans would appear in the last six seconds. Our arrogance does not allow us to see, but the Earth has gone through much worse things than us … and survived.
Those who will not survive … are us, humans.
It is very hard to think about this, but it is a reality. Every time we use a plastic bottle and not recycle, whenever we leave the water running down the sink, every time we use a plastic straw … Every time we buy irrationally, without thinking, without measure … We’re damaging our grandchildren, who will receive the consequences of a planet that is healing itself from a disease called “humanity”.
However, as Argentinian singer Fito Paez say … “Not all is lost, I come to offer my heart”. If every human being realizes the importance of his or her own square meter. If each of us makes a real effort to implement measures and habits in our circle, things would change for the better. The cure would succeed and probably our grandchildren would see a different, higher and happier landscape than the one we see today from our windows.
We cannot lose hope … but we cannot lose our objective either. We are the road, we can change the course. Nobody else can.
Imagine seven billion humans changing direction…. The impact would be exponential!
We are sharing here a video (Belonging to a brilliant video series) to simply make us think. Not even two minutes, however it can change the rest of your life … Let’s enjoy it! And transform our course.
