Puerto Viejo is a beach town located in the canton of Talamanca, in the Limón Province, southeast Caribbean of Costa Rica.
Puerto Viejo is a popular tourist destination, known as the surfing community for having the largest and most powerful wave in Costa Rica, called “Salsa Brava”. It is also a place of beautiful beaches such as Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva and Playa Negra, which are some of the most spectacular beaches in Costa Rica.
If you visit Puerto Viejo be sure to try the “Rice and Beans” –the most popular dish in the area.
Sights and activities in this picturesque town include Cahuita National Park, Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge, Talamanca, Kekoldi Indian Reserve. Activities such as hiking, snorkeling, horseback riding, swimming and kayaking are also available.
