The lodge’s philosophy is meant to allow guests to “switch off” modern conveniences in order to appreciate the beauty of the natural surroundings.
The Tortuguero region is the most important nesting site in the entire Western half of the Caribbean for the green sea turtle. The nesting season starts around mid-July and ends by October. Nightly tours are available, allowing guests to go in search of green sea turtles.
The hotel arranges package prices that include round-trip ground and boat transportation San José – Tortuguero – San José, lodging, all breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and several tours (specified by the hotel).
Pachira Lodge offers a total of 88 rooms.

Day 1: Departure early in the morning from the hotel in San José to the northern Caribbean lowlands, to the Tortuguero town, crossing the impressive Braulio Carrillo National Park. Breakfast will take place at El Ceibo Restaurant in Guápiles, on the way to Caño Blanco dock located in Siquirres. By boat you will travel first on the river and then through the canals that run parallel to the coast until Tortuguero National Park. The ride provides an excellent chance to take a closer look to wildlife.
Upon arrival, lunch will take place at the hotel’s Restaurant.
In the afternoon visit the village of Tortuguero which lies in the northeastern corner of the park, on a thin strip of land between the sea and the main canal, the beach and the Caribbean Conservation Corporation’s visitor center and turtle museum (at the entrance you will be asked for a donation of US$2).
Dinner included at the hotel’s Restaurant.
Overnight stay in Pachira Lodge
Day 2: Breakfast, lunch and dinner included at the hotel’s Restaurant.
In the afternoon there will be a boat tour along the Tortuguero Canals. Tortuguero is one of the most important nesting sites in the western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle from June to September each year. The park is formed by a navigable network of lakes and canals with a large variety of wildlife, including monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas, sloths, turtles and more than 300 species of birds.

Day 3: Breakfast will be at the hotel’s Restaurant, then transfer by boat and then by bus to Guápiles, where lunch will be served at El Ceibo Restaurant. After lunch we will head back to San José.

DAY 1: Your journey begins early in the morning, between 6:00am and 7:00am. You will depart San José and head out on the road to Limon province, on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Your drive will take you across the astonishing Braulio Carrillo National Park, making for a very scenic journey.
You will make a stop at El Ceibo Restaurant in Guapiles for a delicious breakfast. On the road you will pass by extensive banana plantations. Depending on availability, you may make a stop at a banana processing and packing plant where you can learn more about one of Costa Rica’s prime export products. Your journey then continues on to the corresponding dock on your itinerary, where you will board a boat and transfer to Pachira Lodge. You will travel down the river and subsequent canals; the latter are north to south waterways engineered to connect the meandering rivers and lagoons of the area. The region is teeming with wildlife, including abundant bird species, crocodiles, turtles, countless colourful butterflies, sloths, monkeys, agoutis, coatis, and manatees. This transfer allows for great wildlife spotting opportunities along the way.
Once at the lodge, you will sit down and enjoy a delicious lunch. After your meal, you will go on a guided visit to Tortuguero village, where you will be given a glimpse of the way of life of the local inhabitants and witness some of the daily activities of the town. Some of the local attractions include the Caribbean Conservation Corporation’s visitor center and the Turtle Museum. You will also get the chance to so some exploring of your own and visit the local beach.
Dinner will be served at the lodge upon your return.
DAY 02: Your day begins with a dawn journey down one of the local canals, allowing you to witness the splendid Caribbean sunrise. During this canal tour, you will be able to witness and enjoy the exuberance of the tropical rainforest. This region is one of the most important nesting sites of Chelonia Midas, the green sea turtle, whereas its forests and waterways are home to endangered and diverse fauna. Wildlife spotting opportunities abound since the early morning hours are the best time of day to observe wildlife activities and the awakening of the forest.
After your boat journey, you will return to the lodge for breakfast. Once done, you will participate in a guided walk along Pachira’s nature trails in the company of your naturalist guide. The walk lasts 1 ½ to 2 hours, depending on the group. You will return to Pachira for lunch.
During the afternoon, your exploration of the local canals continues (you will take a boat ride down a different canal this time). Spot more of the local wildlife and learn more about the great significance of Tortuguero’s ecosystems. Afterwards, you can sit by the hotel’s pool and enjoy some down time or take a stroll down the lodge’s trails. In addition, you also the option of visiting the butterfly garden and the botanical garden.
Dinner is served at the lodge’s restaurant.
DAY 03: Leisure day. Enjoy the facilities of the lodge, the beach, and any other optional tours available in the area.
DAY 04: After breakfast, you will proceed with your check out and head on out to your corresponding dock. From there you will continue onwards, stopping at El Ceibo Restaurant once more for lunch, to San José.
Includes: Transportation San Jose-Tortuguero-San Jose by bus and boat, breakfast and lunch on the road (day of arrival and departure), all second and third day meals at the lodge, Tortuguero canals and town tour, naturalist tour guide assigned throughout your stay at the Lodge, and standard room accommodation.
Does not include: Alcoholic beverages, soda drinks, cocktails or bottled water, national park entrance fee, and entrance fee to Turtle Museum.
Optional Tours: Fishing tour, Awakening Tour (early morning walk), and a night walk during green turtle nesting season (from July to November).

BUDGET

The Certification for Sustainable Tourism Program – CST – is a product of the Costa Rican Tourism Board and it is regulated by the Costa Rican National Accreditation Commission. The certification is based on an accreditation of a scale of 5 “levels” of sustainable tourism achievement.
CST gives you reliable information regarding companies that make efforts to improve their management and operations to offer a sustainable product. It is also a good tool to differentiate those companies that are truly engaged with sustainable practices, from others that claim to be sustainable but are inconsistent in their actions.
PRICES:
The range of prices scale is based on the following criteria:

These measures are meant to be used as a reference only and they are calculated on double occupancy, standard room, quoted in U.S. Dollars and include a 13% sales tax; on both high and low seasons.
