In the recent weeks we received, happily, the news from our clients and friends, Exodus Travel, communicating that our tour guide Johnny Villalobos was named as a winner in the Runner Up Tour Leader Awards 2015.
Professional tour leaders are hard to find gems whose jobs are to touch the minds and hearts of their passengers. They are, actually, a little bit of everything, they play the therapist, the entertainer, the philosopher, the news bearer, the helping hand and the hearing ear, and mainly they have to inject in their passengers the love and the fascination for the country, its traditions, history and nature. In many cases the tour relies on this capacity of the tour guide to remain in the memories of the travelers.
And well! Among these, we must say that Johnny is quite an extraordinary tour leader. Not only because of his extensive knowledge of the tropical nature, history and traditions of Costa Rica but primarily because of his inexhaustible passion for showing it to his fortunate passengers.
A bit of Johnny’s story:
Johnny didn’t think about tour guiding when he started university, he was actually going for International Commerce, however, on the way to this carrier, the travel industry blinked an eye to him and he did a leap of faith, getting in the tour guide’s certification courses and beginning little by little to learn about the intense nature of Costa Rica.
In his own words, he loves to work with Exodus because of the interest all passengers show for the country, as well as for the balance in time and experiences that programs have. He says that every tour group leaves an eternal print in his soul.
As an interesting detail, when asked what was the downside of his job, his answer was “It doesn’t have a downside… really doesn’t”.
About the Runner Up Tour Leader Award
Exodus received almost 2,000 nominations, full of stories and travel anecdotes of tour leaders making their trips different and memorable.Other than the award itself, the winners receive a cash prize for their personal use and an amount to be donated to the tour leader’s cause of choice.
Johnny picked a quite unknown however impressive cause: Apaza, a center in the Caribbean Region, dedicated to support the autistic population of this area. According to Johnny this center works with great dedication to educate children and teens in music and other disciplines and to give support -and educate also- to the families of the autistic children of this quite poor region.
For Camino Travel
For Georgina Salas, General Manager, this award is a satisfactory result of all the hard work of the team to succeed in all tours we provide. She is certain that if there were more awards for this division of Exodus tours, all Costa Rican Exodus Tour leaders would be winners. As they all share with Johnny his efficiency, knowledge and passion for work.
About Johnny she says: “Having Johnny in any tour is a guarantee that our operation team will be worry-free at all times. He is very efficient, knowledgeable and friendly as he is accountable for anything we might need in terms of support, information or trainings.”
As a conclusion we want to congratulate Johnny for a well-deserved award, his hard work, his passion and great service to Exodus passengers. We also want to thank all our tour leaders, and the sales and operations teams as this is an award that touches us all.
