The leading U.S. travel magazine, Travel+Leisure, published their top Central America picks this week, with Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica’s Hacienda AltaGracia topping the list.
The resort, which received a score of 97.33 by the magazine, is described as follows:
“Set on 865 acreage area in southern Costa Rica, this distant place caters to its guests from the moment of departure — via its private airstrip, if you wish. Visitors stay in stylish, earth-toned suites and cabins with fireplaces, and many activities such as horseback riding, biking, hiking, and an indoor and outdoor pool without leaving the grounds. The food is fresh and delicious (lunch might be a whole-grain veggie burger or hearts-of-palm ceviche, for instance), and you can stay in a healthy mentality during a fitness or meditation class. ‘We are hotel snobs,’ wrote one reader, ‘and this place is our favorite.’ Another upped the ante, adding, ‘Heaven on earth.’”
Hacienda Altagracia, an Auberge Resort, surrounded by mountains and rivers, offers a sumptuous taste of rural Costa Rica at its finest. It’s 50 lodges, each with an ample patio, offer breathtaking views of the San Isidro Valley.
Facilities include a full-service spa with indoor and outdoor treatment areas, a pool and play room, as well as private dining facilities, for pairs and groups.
Select tours hand-picked by the hotel for their quality include attractions such as coffee plantations and wildlife refuges, as well as ultra-light flights through Nauyaca Falls from the hotel’s private track.
Following on the heels of AltaGracia is Nayara Springs near the Arenal Volcano National Park, about 150 kilometers from San José.
Nayara Springs, with its 35 luxurious cabins and mineral spring pools, was awarded the top resort in Central America by Condé Nast for 2017.
