Stunning Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, is a humid reserve filled with wetlands that is considered to be one of the most bio-diverse places in the whole of Costa Rica.
It is one of the most outstanding regions in Mesoamerica, declared of International Importance by the RAMSAR Convention. Additionally, it is the heart of the Water and Peace Biosphere Reserve. Several boat tours depart from Los Chiles, heading the down the Frío River and into Caño Negro.
This refuge is home to more than 350 bird species, 310 plants and at least 160 species of mammals such as; the howler monkey, the white faced monkey and the spider monkey.
Also, there are many species of fish such as the famous Garfish, which is often referred to as a living fossil.
Hot and humid.
Sunny Months: March, April and September and October.
In this area the weather is unpredictable, you may get a very fast shower in the middle of a sunny day, or it may be really sunny in the middle of the rainy season.
