1.Rainforest Canopy Tours
Costa Rica is the birth place of rainforest canopy tours, as rainforest biologists used ziplines to go from one tree to the next to research on the life above the jungle floor. Now… Is it really a must? Oh yes! Even if you are terrified by heights it is a must! To fly on top of the forest see the views and feel like a bird… Oh yes! It is a must!
2. Walk by the San José pedestrian boulevards.
These are the arteries of the Costa Rican population, they lead to the main museums, the shopping areas and the famous Central Market. It is a must if you feel that knowing the culture of the country you are traveling to, is important.
3. Go river rafting
As it is a country with great mountains, it is a country with great rafting rivers. Wether you are in in the Central Valley (Pacuare or Reventazón Rivers), up North or in the Arenal Volcano area (Sarapiqui, Peñas Blancas), in Guanacaste (Tenorio) or in Manuel Antonio (Savegre and Naranjo Rivers) you can find not only some of the best rapids but stunning rainforest landscapes.
4. Eat fruits and vegetables you’ve never eaten before
There are several tropical fruits that are not known in other areas of the World. Either mangostan, ramboutan, cas, pejibaye or guanabana, you must try as many unknow fruits or vegetables as you can. Some of then will taste funny, some will have a weird texture and some may surprise you with amazing seet flavor… Try them! That is what traveling is about!
5. Learn to surf
Either staying in Tamarindo, Manuel Antonio or Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean you will find great surfing schools wehere tehy will get you to stand on a board and run a wave. Try it! The feeling is awesome!
6. See a waterfall in the rainforest
There are so many amazing waterfalls in the rainforest in Costa Rica that they are actually hard to skip. However, never mind how many times you see a waterfall in the wild… you can always astonish at the beauty of the next.
7. Eat a casado
Some people say that our most typical meal “casado” (married) is called that way because all the food goes together in one plate. Some other people say that is called that way as that is what you are condemned to eat for the rest of your life when you get married. Usually the “casados” are: Rice, beans, meat (Can be chicken, beef or fish) a chopped vegetable (Potatoes, squash, heart of palm, etc.), a simple green salad, and sweet plaintain. They used to be cooked in wood stoves and totally worth to try!
8. Hike in the rainforest
Unless you are coming for business… this is what you came here for! Rainforests are 51% of the Costa Rican land. They are everywhere. Some have barely made pathways, some have wide and paved trails. But they are all gorgeous, and they are all suprising. Walk slow and in silence. Life is watching you.
9. Go to a volcano crater
In Costa Rica there over a hundred volcanoes and in some of them you can get up to the summit and see down their craters. If you are to see a volcano… See the most amazing part of it! Its crater!
10. Get in the hot springs
And with volcanoes, there are the hot springs! Soothing and nice you must try them! An advice though, they are usually located in fairly warm areas. Get in after 4:00 p.m. so that the weather is cooler and the experience is nicer!
