Sámara is well known for being one of the prettiest as well as one of the safest beaches in the country, with its 5kms/3miles coastline of white sand and turquoise waters.
Its relaxed and lazy atmosphere is characteristic of the region, making for an ideal retreat to get away from it all. Sámara village offers a series of services such as hotels, restaurants, stores, and a small selection of bars. The town also boasts a lively nightlife, found at one of the local discos.
An offshore coral reef protects Sámara’s bay, reason why the water is so calm. It is perfectly suited for snorkelling, swimming, and learning to surf. The best spot for snorkelling is in Cangrejal, at the northern end of the bay. Here, the ring of coral reef connects to the shoreline and during the dry season, visitors can enjoy crystal clear waters teeming with colourful fish, manta rays, and star fish along with other underwater life.
For those interested in bird watching, a visit to Chora Island, a wildlife reserve located just offshore, is a must: it is the home of countless numbers of birds.
