Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in San José. Meet and greet at the airport and transfer to your hotel.

Day 2

(B, L) Early morning you will be picked up the Pacuare Whitewater Rafting Tour (class III-IV). The crisp clear water of the Pacuare, Latin America’s first Wild and Scenic River, offers some of the finest whitewater in the world, providing the adventurous rafter with a ride of great natural beauty. After this tour transfer to the Arenal Volcano area. Rest of the afternoon at leisure.

Day 3

(B,L,D) Enjoy a full adventure day beginning with a visit to the hanging bridges where we will do a walk in the forest from the ground to the treetops. Visitors who love nature will enjoy 15 bridges from 5 to 100 meters long, designed along 3 km of rain forest in a circuit of interpretive trails built with paving blocks to prevent slipping. Continue to La Fortuna Waterfall where we will descend to a challenging hike through the dense rainforest to the natural blue pool into which the waterfall pours, where you can take a delightful swim. Visit afterwards the Arenal Volcano National park for a short hike in one of the trails close to the volcano area. This super active day ends at the hot springs, where you will comfort yourself at hot pools set amongst ornate gardens.  The minerals waters, running at a soothing temperature of 39° C (102 F), flow through exotic tropical gardens, forming cascades and pools…. the perfect setting for an unforgettable experience.

Day 4

(B) After breakfast at the hotel, you will be picked up for the bus-boat-bus transfer from Arenal to Monteverde. You will travel through a very scenic and safe trail along the Arenal Lake where you’ll get several glimpses of the famous and very active Arenal Volcano and ride beside lush and beautiful rainforest – try and spot toucans, Montezuma Oropendolas, sloths, monkeys, the elusive “paca” and other tropical creatures.  Upon arrival in Monteverde check in at the hotel and rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5

(B) Visit in the morning the Sky Adventures Park, where you will enjoy the Sky Walk (a complex system of suspended bridges, platforms and paths), the Sky Tram (aerial tram).  And the Sky Trek (system of trails, canopy platforms, one treetop platform, one suspension bridge and ziplines built within the cloud forest). This tour offers the opportunity to experience the cloud forest from a different point of view than other tours available in this area.  Transfer back to the hotel after the tour. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 6

(B) After breakfast, transfer to Tamarindo Beach, a superb swimming beach on the North-Pacific coast, located about 4 hours drive from Monteverde.

Day 7

(B) Days at leisure in Tamarindo for optional activities such as fishing, diving, horseback riding, hiking or just relaxing on the beach.

Day 8

(B) Morning at leisure in Tamarindo. Early afternoon transfer back to San José. Rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9

(B) Private transfer to the San Jose International Airport.

*Private Transfers Alternative: A private driver will pick up the clients directly at the hotel and will take them to the next destination. The schedules can be flexible (unless they have to connect with other transfers or be in a certain place at a specific moment) and they do not have to wait for other clients, since this is a private service.

**Rental Car Alternative:  Renting a car is a convenient way to move around the country as it gives you the freedom to explore at will.  Our preferred car rental companies offer a complete list of services, including a modern fleet of vehicles and pick-up and drop-off services in San José as well as in the main tourist destinations. We would recommend a 4WD whenever possible and depending on the places you wish to visit, as they are more robust vehicles and a more reliable option for difficult roads. The rate provided does not include the Mandatory Insurance (USD 19.00 per day of rent). Clients will pick up the vehicle a SUV Intermediate on Day 05 and return it on Day 11.
