Located on the Caribbean shore of Costa Rica, Tortuguero protects a 35km/22mile long beach that is the most important nesting site in the Western Atlantic Ocean for the green sea turtle. Each year, from the beginning of July until the end of September, these turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. The national park closes its beach from dusk to dawn during nesting season in an attempt to protect these marvellous creatures
