BOAT TRANSPORTATION
In some relatively isolated areas in Costa Rica, the only way to get there is by boat or airplane, since there is no access road to those places. Boat trips are very pleasant: mangroves, rivers, and channels are surrounded by dense vegetation.
Due to their distance, most lodges are located in these zones and they include the boat transportation in their packages.

Places that can only be reached
by boat
Tortuguero (Northern
Caribbean): A two-hour trip takes travelers through the amazing water channels, with the presence of forests that surround them. The Tortuguero National Park, in fact, protects these natural channels, and all lodges and hotels of the region are located throughout their borders. The round transfer to and from San José, is provided by the lodges, as well as all meals.
Corcovado- Drake
Bay (South Pacific): This boat ride of one hour and a half, from the town of Sierpe to Drake Bay, is one of the most intense and amazing trips. The route initiates in the mangroves and the narrow channels of the Sierpe River and to its mouth, then, the boat flows into the Pacific Ocean. The blue ocean waters, the palms trees and the forests in the borders of the sea, as well as the imposing Caño Island, excel the landscape. With a little luck, dolphins could accompany you during the sea voyage. Some hotels offer air, ground and boat transportation as part of their packages, in addition they include meals and some excursions.
The places where they offer one-day boat tours include: Caño Negro Wild Life Refuge (North Region), Sarapiquí River (North Region), Palo Verde National Park (North Pacific Region) and Corobicí River (North Pacific Region).
