The picturesque village of Sarchí, known as the cradle of Costa Rica’s craftsmanship is home to the traditional colorful painted oxcarts. This is the ideal place for shopping for local souvenirs made out of wood, leather, ceramic and other rustic materials hand made and hand painted by local artisans. There are a number of factories open for tourists to observe the craftsmanship involved in traditional artisan crafts such as ox-carts.
