Arenal Volcano by night
It is certainly the main attraction in this northern region: the majestic Arenal Volcano, one of the most active volcanoes in the Western Hemisphere. Its perfect conical shape and constant lava eruptions amaze visitors from all over the world. Nevertheless, Arenal owes its reputation not only to the active volcano, but also to the wide variety of activities and interesting natural spots available within a short distance.
On your way there, you will ride through the heavenly landscape of Lake Arenal, a man made lake that provides water for a hydroelectric plant and for irrigation in the low lands of the Guanacaste province during the dry season.
As an option, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a hiking tour at the surroundings of the volcano, in an overview area called El Silencio. After that, you will experience the mineral hot springs.
After nightfall, the glow of flowing lava can be seen from several points in the area (if it’s not cloudy). During the tour it is possible to spot toucans, guans, oropendolas, monkeys and coatis.
What to bring: Long pants, t-shirt, and comfortable shoes, camera, binoculars, cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, sandals, a change of clothes and swimming suit .
