Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge
You will depart in the morning for a wild hike into the humid tropical forest of Gandoca-Manzanillo. The Wildlife Refuge is located on the Caribbean Coast near the Panamanian border and hosts innumerable amounts of flora and fauna. The Refuge’s natural conditions make it an extremely interesting destination for scientists and for nature lovers. Its scenic beauty and its exuberant vegetation shelter a fan of multicolor ethnic groups that have found in this place their home.
In Gandoca- Manzanillo, the forest in its majority is very diverse and colorful where in addition are many species of birds, mammals and other species of the tropical animal. You will have a hiking tour in the reserve for around 2 hours, where you might find the wild inhabitants of the rainforest including: Toucans, trogons, jacamar, plus mammals like the Two-and Three-Toed sloth and monkeys; also you can find river turtles, green iguanas, crocodiles and snakes. Also you can appreciate trees with hundred of years.
Gandoca is one of the most important places in the world for the laying of eggs of the Leather Back Turtle.
Additionally, you can experience how the Afro-Caribbean and indigenous cultures live in harmony with nature.
What to bring: Hat or cap, sun block, insect repellent, sneakers or sandals, bathing suit, and towel, sun glasses and camera.
