FLORA & FAUNA TOURS
National Parks and Reserves
Although a good part of Costa Rica's land has been compromised due to economic pressures, thanks to an effort in 1970 to start a national park system to preserve Costa Rica's natural treasures, it has preserved a larger proportion of its land than any other country in the world and remains one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. The park system protects 186 areas of land including 32 national parks, 13 forest reserves, 8 biological reserves and 51 wildlife refuges. Within these parks and reserves you can find almost all of the world's existing natural habitats including deciduous forest, mangrove swamp, rainforest, cloud forest, paramos, marshland and more.
