This is a restored neocolonial building nearly a century old and close to tourist attractions. The residence was built of brick and inlaid with hand carved precious woods and ironwork by the finest craftsmen of the period. The façade is abundantly studded with stone whilst spiral columns grace the front garden. From the lobby, vestibule and dining area, hand carved mahogany beams and corbels can be seen in addition to the cloister-like arches delimiting the common areas and the interior of the building. Staircase railings are of wrought iron, the upper floors are cristobal (tropical redwood), and closet doors are hand carved. The three balcony verandas are wrought iron.

This lodge is located 89 km South of San José in the mountainous region of San Gerardo de Dota (a 2 hour drive from San José on a curvy-mountain paved road). Savegre is set in the foothills of a mountain in the southern Central Valley, at an altitude of 2200 m/7300 feet. During both the dry season (from mid November to mid May), and the rainy season (from mid May to mid November), the average temperatures are 22°C/71°F.
The lodge has 44 rooms, 24 standard rooms and 20 Junior Suites all equipped with private bathroom, hot water, telephone, a furnace, and safety deposit box. The Junior Suites have an additional fireplace. There are no televisions in the rooms. Other facilities include a restaurant serving homemade Costa Rican and International meals, laundry service and currency exchange. Some activities in the area include horseback riding, guided bird watching tours, fishing, and walking along the forest trails that are located in a 600 hectares Private Nature Reserve. Birds such as quetzals and trogons are common in the area besides other 170 recorded species of bird makes the place a birdwatchers paradise.

Trogon Lodge is located in San Gerardo de Dota, approximately 85 km / 136 miles southeast of San Jose, on a family farm set in the mountains at an altitude of 7,000 ft. A freshwater river runs through the property, which is surrounded by lush cloud forest and centennial oak trees. The lodge has 23 comfortable rooms including 22 Standard rooms and 1 Junior Suite, each with a private bath, porch overlooking the forest, hot running water and heating. The Junior Suite is perched on a hill and features a king size bed, private bathroom with Jacuzzi overlooking the forest, heating unit and an impressive view of the area.
Among the facilities the hotel offers are: delicious home-cooked meals served in a family-style restaurant, a bar, nature trails, conference center, trout ponds, laundry, and telephone in the reception (there are no telephones in the rooms). Further activities offered by the lodge are: birdwatching tours (birds such as quetzals and trogons are common in the area), horseback rides, guided nature walks, canopy tour, and visits to the Rio Macho Forest Reserve.
