Nacientes Palmichal
This communal initiative located in a rural area of San Jose province is a community of 5000 Huetar tribe inhabitants situated a mere 43kms from Costa Rica’s capital. Its boasts 42 hectares of wildlife refuge, a hydric reserve on the banks of the Tabarcia River that includes the precious water sources that feed its torrent. On the reserve’s borders, private farms dedicated to paying for environmental services can be found.
During the tour, you will get to learn more about the rural way of life of the Huetar people. Your local guide will greet you at Quitirrisí Indigenous Reserve - El Orgullo de la India and will proceed to introduce you to the details of Huetar culture. You will also get to experience a goat farm and taste delicious goat products at the CAPRINOLAC. To further learn about the Huetar culture you can enjoy a hike in the Palmichal Mountains and a chat on ADESSARU's (Association of the Sustainable Development of Rural San Jose) conservation efforts.
You will then continue to make your last stop at Don Marino’s organic farm and will get the chance to learn about the traditional production of biogas. You’ll also be able to browse through examples of gorgeous indigenous bamboo handcrafts and learn about the work of the amazing female crafters who create them.
