RURALTOURISM
Keköldi
Although very little exists of the indigenous culture in Costa Rica, what remains can best be experienced by visiting this reserve in the Talamanca mountains. With encroaching modernization, tourism, and industrial conquest, the natural environment and indigenous traditions have found themselves in an increasingly marginal position in Costa Rica. In 1976 this reserve was created in an attempt to provide a sanctuary and to protect the culture from agricultural, and business pressures. During your time in the reserve members of Kekoldi Wak ka Koneke Association will give you the opportunity to learn about their sustainable customs, mythology, conservation efforts and unique history. The reserve offers half day and full day walking and cultural tours that take visitors through the Talamanca mountains specifically the Striu trail pointing out how the natural elements of the mountains support the cultural traditions of the Bribri and Cabecar people. The tours will also take visitors through the current conservation projects to protect the Iguana verde.
