El Encanto de Piedra Blanca The aim of this enriching tour is to give visitors a taste of the cultural heritage and the rural way of life of San Antonio de Escazú, located in the mountains on the west side of Costa Rica’s Central Valley.
You will arrive at the offices of El Encanto de la Piedra Blanca/CODECE and will be greeted by your guide. You will then set out for you’re a visit of a traditional sugar meal, owned by Don Torino, where you will learn all about the traditional process of making sweets out of sugar cane. Afterwards, you will make a stop at a masquerade’s garage, owned by Don Gerardo Montoya, expert craftsman and maker of traditional masks. He is the grandson of Pedro Arias, one of the first Costa Ricans to introduce masquerades to the Central Valley and involve them in local celebrations. Once you’ve learned about the methods of making the masks, you’ll get the chance to create one of your own. At the end of the tour, you’ll enjoy a traditional while learning about the conservation efforts of CODECE.
