RURALTOURISM
Cerro Escondido/ Karen Mogensen Reserve
During this tour, you will visit Karen Mogensen Reserve, located on the south of Nicoya Peninsula. In 1996, a local conservation group called ASEPALECO purchased the 900 hectare terrain owned by an old couple of farmers. The reserve was then established with the objective of bringing back the forest to this patch of farmland, protecting two of the main sources of drinkable water in the area.
The tour includes a little bit of everything, from bird watching to hiking to swimming in the pool of a gorgeous waterfall. You will start out with a horseback ride across Karen Mogensen Reserve, where you will spend the night. During your stay, you will receive a special chat detailing ASEPALECO’s conservation efforts and projects. Early in the morning, you will join a bird watching tour right after breakfast. Afterwards you will take part in another trek, making your way through the rainforest towards Novia Waterfall. The third day of your tour will be filled with other hiking and swimming options before departing.
