AGRO-ECOTOURISM
Cacao Tour (La Tirimbina)
This 300 hectare / 750 acre mid elevation rainforest is a non-profit project sponsored by the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Riveredge Nature Center. Yearly, groups of students, researchers, and natural history lovers walk along the property's 6km of trails. The Chocolate Tour begins with a short hike across a suspension bridge to a former cacao-tree (Theobroma cacao) plantation. During the walk, you will learn about the natural and cultural history of the cacao tree. Once you reach the plantation you'll get to see the chocolate-making process first-hand and even have the opportunity to treat yourself to organic rainforest chocolate!
