Cacao Tour (La Tirimbina)
La Tirimbima Center (located in Sarapiqui, on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica) is a 300 hectare / 750 acre mid elevation rainforest reserve and a non-profit project sponsored by the Milwaukee Public Museum and the Riveredge Nature Center. Yearly, groups of students, researchers and natural history lovers walk along the property’s 6km of trails.
One of the main attractions of La Tirimbina is its special chocolate/cocoa tour. It begins with a short hike across a hanging bridge to a former cocoa tree (Theobroma cacao) plantation. During the hike, your guide will tell you all about the natural and cultural history of the cocoa tree, including its importance in Costa Rican economy. At the plantation, you will witness the entire chocolate production process first-hand as you go on a walkthrough of all its phases. Afterwards you’ll be able to treat yourself to some delicious organic rainforest chocolate!
