Bio coffee Tour

The Sol Colibri Farm is located in Santa Maria de Dota and is an organic farm dedicated to the sustainable production of coffee. On this tour, you will visit Sol Colibri and will go on a complementary visit to an ecological coffee processing plant called Beneficio Montañas del Diamante. Together, both experiences will help to give you a perspective of the possibilities of ecological farming and processing that are achievable nowadays.
You’ll start out at Sol Colibri Farm, where you will be welcomed to a warm and comfortable atmosphere. The tour begins with an introductory chat about the project as you walk along the Paso de los Bueyes (Pass of the Oxen) trail. You’ll make your way through secondary rainforests where you will be able to see all kinds of birds and diverse vegetation. At the end of your hike, you’ll come to the coffee plantation; what makes Sol Colibri so interesting in a biological sense is how it eliminates the conservative ideas of conventional coffee growing. You’ll be taken on a walkthrough of this innovative plantation and will participate in the Tour de la Conciencia (Conscience Tour), where you will learn all about the project’s conservation efforts.
When you’re done at the plantation, you will continue towards Beneficio Montañas del Diamante, the coffee processing plant. Here you’ll get to witness all the different phases of coffee production, from the harvesting to the packaging. You’ll also learn about the environmental criterion used to judge coffee production as well as its grading process.
The objective of this bio coffee tour is to teach its participants about the importance of organic coffee production using first class environmental technology. By applying this kind of technique, natural resources can be protected while the high quality of the coffee remains the same.
