National Theatre
The Teatro Nacional (National Theatre) was built in 1890 and is considered the cultural center of San Jose. It hosts operas, ballets, concerts, poetry readings and other cultural events all throughout the year. In addition to providing culture to the masses, it is also one of the most remarkable architectural works in the city. Even though it looks really elegant from the outside, you will be happy to learn that the inside of the building is even more interesting and hosts a numerous variety of Costa Rican paintings from the 19th century. Additionally, the marble staircases, gilded ceilings and parquet floors made of local hard woods are worth making a stop to observe.
