MUSEUMS
Jade Museum
Walk by the boxy, architecturally unimpressive National Insurance Institute (INS) building on Parque España and you’d never guess that real treasures await inside. On the 11th floor, with a commanding view of the city is the Jade Museum (Museo de Jade). The museum houses one of the world’s greatest collections of archaeological artifacts made out of its namesake mineral “Jade” as well as stone, and gold. Through a tour of the five rooms visitors can learn about the development and legacy of Costa Rica’s pre-Columbian ancestory. Each room has a different theme offering information about the integral role that jade and other materials played in pre-Columbian society.
