SURFING IN COSTA RICA
When it comes to surfing, it is well known that Costa Rica is one of the most famous surf spots in the world. International and worldwide surfing competitions have been held in Costa Rican beaches and surfers from every corner of the planet travel every year for a chance to surf Costa Rican waves. Surfing encompasses everything Costa Rica has to offer: adventure, beauty and sport. Having the advantage of possessing both a Pacific and Caribbean coast, Costa Rica simply cannot go wrong when it comes to surfing. There are great surfing conditions and breathtaking surroundings all year long.
Beaches for the Surf Experts: Playa Grande in Guanacaste is a great option for expert surfers if you are up on the North Pacific coast. However, in the Central Pacific area, Playa Hermosa and Jaco are also popular surf spots for the more experienced. For those looking for some of the biggest waves in Costa Rica, there is Playa Pavones in the South Pacific and Puerto Viejo in the Southern Caribbean. These last two beaches offer their largest waves during the peak of the rainy season.
