SNORKELING
Equipped with swim fins, goggles, and a snorkel (a shaped tube used for breathing under the water) you can experience the mysterious underwater world as you swim around some of Costa Rica's marvelous coral reefs. The coral reefs of Costa Rica offer opportunities to observe some of the most interesting environments in the world hosting hundreds of fish species, crustaceans, shellfish, and types of algae. If you're lucky you may also get the opportunity to observe sea turtles, dolphins, and jellyfish. One of the best places to go snorkeling is Cahuita National Park with one of the most extensive live coral reefs in the world. On the Pacific Coast there are also good snorkeling spots in Mal Pais, Tamarindo, Montezuma, Manuel Antonio, Caño Island, Uvita, and more.
CAHUITA NATIONAL PARK: The live coral reef of Cahuita National Park includes approximately 123 different species of fish, 44 species of crustaceans, 140 shellfish, 128 algae species, and 35 different coral species. Above the water, the park is also amazing, with thick green vegetation and animals such as sloths, and monkeys. The tour includes two hours of snorkeling and 1 ½ hours of walking in the National Park.
CAÑO ISLAND: Board a boat that will take you to Caño Island where your snorkeling adventure will start. During the boat ride to the Island you will pass through the biggest mangrove forest in Central America, along the Sierpe River. This wetland is home to several species of birds. After 1½ hour, you will reach the mouth of the river, which will take you to Caño Island, a biological reserve known for its marine wildlife abundance. As soon as you arrive to the island, you will have the chance to snorkel, looking for the most colorful reef fish speicies. After get some rest on the beach, you can choose to snorkel, hike up the island or stay on the beach to rest or swim until it is time to return to Sierpe.
PUNTA UVA: Experience the feeling of the sea breeze as you paddle to Punta Uva or Manzanillo Beaches The Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge has around 10,950 marine acres, and it protects more than 5 square kilometers of coral reef along the coast. A local guide will be with you during the whole tour. There is also chance to practice snorkeling during the tour; and then just, relax at the beach.
