RAFTING IN COSTA RICA
When it comes to white-water rafting Costa Rica offers some of the best rivers in the world. Wild and untamed, they plunge through beautiful and extensive unexplored tropical wilderness. Costa Rican rivers offer entertainment for everyone; you may find class III and IV rivers filled with adrenaline thrills as well as gentle streams where visitors can float peacefully and observe wildlife completely at ease. The mildest rafting trips (Class II) can be found in the Sarapiquí (Northern Lowlands) and the Corobicí (North Pacific) Rivers. The Pacuare (Central Valley) and Savegre (Central Pacific) Rivers offer a stronger, more energetic rafting trip (Class III-IV). Camino Travel would like to let you know that all rafting tours are conducted by knowledgeable guides with years of experience when it comes to white-water rafting. The rafts fit a maximum of six people and you will be provided with all the necessary equipment, such as helmets and life jackets.
Pacuare White Water Rafting: The Pacuare River is ideal for white water rafting enthusiasts. You will have a wild and wet day, weaving and diving down one of the best white water rivers in the world (Class III-IV). After a scenic drive along the countryside, you will reach the river’s access point. There, you will receive your equipment (helmets, life jackets and paddles). After the safety orientation talk, you will start your exhilarating journey along the river, surrounded by amazing wild scenery the whole way. Breakfast and a light lunch are included, as well as roundtrip transportation and equipment.
Sarapiqui River Rafting Tour: This rather calm trip (it can be considered more like a boat float) along II-III class rapids will offer you a great opportunity to appreciate the surrounding natural environment along the riverbank. Your tour guide (every 6 person raft will be accompanied by a guide) will provide you with all the necessary equipment (life jackets, helmets, paddles, etc.) after giving you a brief orientation talk. It is a very safe section of the Sarapiqui River and it can be run year round.
Rafting in Colorado River: This river is located 8kms (5 miles) from the “white city” of Liberia. This river originates in the foothills of Guanacaste’s Mountain range and is perfect for rafting activities. Your guides will provide you with all the necessary equipment. You will receive a thorough safety talk on what to do once you are in the river before paddling your way down the Colorado. This thrilling ride lasts about 1½ hours and you will travel through Class II and III rapids. The scenery is really breathtaking, with vegetation spanning across the natural canyon of the river.
Savegre River Rafting: The Savegre River (Class II, III, & IV rapids), which cascades down from the remote Talamanca Mountain Range, is one of Costa Rica’s most pristine waterways. Your full day rafting adventure includes a four-wheel drive journey and four hours of paddling in 6-people rafts down the river. There are great swimming holes and wonderful waterfalls along the way, giving the tour a great variety of spectacular scenery. This tour runs during the rainy season (from May to December). Camino Travel recommends this tour for moderately fit adults who can paddle and walk over rocks.
