RAFTING IN COSTA RICA

Costa Rica offers some of the world´s best whitewater rafting rivers. Wild and untamed, these rivers plunge through beautiful, largely unexplored tropical wilderness with canyons covered by dense forests.  There is plenty of rafting and floating for everyone: class III –IV rivers where adrenaline flows from the first moment are the most physically demanding.  There are also gentle streams where travelers can take a boat float and observe the wildlife at ease.  The mildest rafting trips (Class II) take place in the Sarapiquí (Northern Lowlands) and the Corobicí (North Pacific) Rivers, while the Pacuare (Central Valley) and Savegre (Central Pacific) Rivers offer a stronger, more active rafting trip.(Class III-IV). All rafting tours are conducted by knowledgeable guides in rafts that fit a maximum of six people, all well equipped with helmets and life jackets.

WHITEWATER RAFTING IN PACUARE RIVER: The Pacuare River is one of the best places for whitewater adventure lovers. After a scenic drive along the countryside, you will reach the river’s “put-in”, where you will receive your equipment to start your class III & IV rapids tour. After the safety orientation talk, you will start a 12-mile exciting journey along the river. Breakfast and a light lunch are included, as well as roundtrip transportation and equipment.

RAFTING TOUR IN SARAPIQUI RIVER: This boat float along the II-III class rapids will offer you a great chance to appreciate the surrounding nature along the riverbanks. Your tour guide will hand you your life jackets, and will give you a brief orientation talk before getting into the river. During the trip you will make a stop, and you will very likely spot some birds or monkeys!

RAFTING IN COLORADO RIVER: Located 8 km (5 miles) from Liberia, you will find the Colorado River, born on the foothills of Guanacaste’s Mountain range, and where you will take your whitewater rafting tour. Your guides will give you the equipment and a safety talk on what to do once you are in the river. The ride will take about 1½ hours, while you go through Class II and III rapids. The scenery is really beautiful, with vegetation over the natural canyon.

RAFTING IN SAVEGRE RIVER: The Savegre River (Class II, III, & IV rapids), which falls down from the distant Talamanca Mountain Range, is one of Costa Rica’s most pristine and favorite waterways. Your full day adventure includes a four-wheel drive journey, and four hours of paddling. There are great swimming spots and fantastic waterfalls, giving the tour the complement of its spectacular scenery. This tour is recommend for moderately fit adults who can paddle and walk over rocks.
