CANOPY TOURS
When it comes to canopy tours, you will have the chance to get up close and personal with Costa Rica’s rain forests by viewing them from the unique perspective of the treetops. With the security of a cable system, you can safely soar from tree to tree, enjoying the flora and fauna and an exhilarating ride. You will slide from one treetop to another on a system of wires, harnesses and pulleys. Canopy touring is now one of the most popular adventure activities in Costa Rica, with tours lasting between 2 ½ to 3 hours. This activity is available practically in every area of the country. Some of the most popular Canopy tours are in Monteverde, Poas, San Mateo, Pacuare, Puerto Viejo, Braulio Carrillo and Manuel Antonio.
SKY TREK, MONTEVERDE: The Sky Trek consists of a system of trails, canopy platforms, one treetop platform, one suspension bridge and two zip lines built within the cloud forest. The tour lasts between 2 ½ to 3 hours. The Sky Trek tour has become one of the most popular activities in Costa Rica; visitors from all over travel to Monteverde just to get a chance to soar among the trees.
SELVATURA PARK, MONTEVERDE:This is a cloud forest conservation project located in Monteverde. It hosts a number of activities and educational programs meant to introduce visitors to the wonders of the cloud forest. Guests can explore the forest canopy while sliding across the treetops on a canopy tour or take a calmer approach by walking on the 1.9 mile Treetop Walkway.
SARAPIQUÍ: Hacienda Pozo Azul is a 2000-acre family ranch (located in La Virgen de Sarapiquí) that has been turned into an adventure center for tourists. You will take a tractor ride to the starting point of your canopy tour, where your guide will give you a safety talk and explain the proper use of the equipment. Afterwards, your soaring adventure will take you across 12 cables and 17 platforms, at heights of up to 90 feet from the ground. The rainforests of this region are some of the richest forests in biodiversity of the entire world; therefore your canopy ride will most likely be accompanied by lots wildlife sightings (especially birds and monkeys).
RINCÓN DE LA VIEJA: This tour takes you on a journey through 11 platforms, 10 cables and an air bridge, offering you the opportunity to get a closer look at the rainforest’s canopy. You will slide from one treetop to another in an exhilarating ride. After a short hike through a tropical dry forest, you will come to the first platform. From here you can soar down the cables and have a truly thrilling experience.
GUANACASTE: This exhilarating journey filled with of adrenaline lets you travel up on the treetops suspended by stainless steel cables. After taking a quick hike through the rainforest, you’ll reach the first platform from where your canopy adventure will begin. With some luck, you will have the chance to see howler monkeys up in the trees while as you fly by at the level of the highest branches.
CENTRAL PACIFIC: During our canopy tour in the mid-Pacific region of Costa Rica, you will enjoy an easy trek along natural trails, passing through bridges and observing marvelous tropical waterfalls. A number of platforms await you once you start your canopy adventure and they can be reached in several different ways: sliding along cables or on a toboggan, swaying on a Tarzan swing, walking along a suspended bridge or rappelling downwards. The tour is supervised by experienced guides at all times who will provide you with all the appropriate equipment and safety instructions.
MANUEL ANTONIO: Experience the excitement of exploring the tropical canopy through a series of suspension platforms situated high above the forest floor. These platforms are connected by steel cables that have been specially designed for people to slide across, allowing you to discover the flora and fauna of the tropical forest first hand. You will have the chance to see a variety of animals including howler and white-faced monkeys, sloths and toucans. You will have lots of opportunities to take pictures along the way, including a spectacular view of the ocean from the high up the mountains.
